Discover Seven Oaks in the Breedekloof - New Pop-up Restaurant and Theatre of Aromas

We headed out to Seven Oaks in the Breedekloof last week and we’re still smiling at the discovery of this boutique winery.

The owners, Patrick and Jacqui Pols, have created a refreshing “anything goes” environment and make visitors feel right at home. They bought the little “fixer-upper” in 2003 and have created a homely, yet elegant space to taste their wines and we were lucky enough to experience their BRAND NEW experience and first pop-up restaurant.

Their new Theatre of Aromas is a unique sensorial wine experience, arguably the first of its kind in the Cape. A total of 28 aromas can be nosed, focusing on those found mainly in South African and Seven Oaks wines. We had great fun guessing what the aromas are before scanning the QR codes to reveal them. Head out there and give it a try. The experience costs R50 per person.

In their nearly two decades on the farm, the Pols family have created a lifetime's worth of stories. On Saturday mornings they love to do personal tastings with visitors and you can hear all about how the name Seven Oaks came to be. Be sure to ask about the Sam’s Block Chenin which involves a mystery urn from an auction and some magic ashes. Thanks Sam!

Our favourite of the day was their Unwooded Chardonnay, perfect for summer sipping and the Noble Late Harvest made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes (only available from the tasting room). Their 6+1 range has some truly special reds, made by winemaker, Lindie Jordaan.

Keep an eye on their social media pages for their next pop-up restaurant date – likely to be 11 Dec. Their vineyard cottages with private wood-fired Turkish Baths are also very popular so if you’re looking for a getaway spot, make a weekend of it and unwind in the Breedekloof at Seven Oaks.
