Launch of Tokara's new vintages at Ellerman House

The first media event of the year is usually a celebration of new things, and this year's launch of Tokara's new vintages was no different. What was different was having the launch not at the farm, but at the most gorgeous Ellerman House, situated high above the Atlantic Ocean in Bakoven, Cape Town.

Stuart Botha is well settled into his role as winemaker now and confidently spoke about the wines and the 2022 vintage as being one of the best with serious concentration.

Aidan Morton, their viticulturist, waxed lyrical about the way they are processing their dedication to re-use of their waste, having installed an effective biomass production facility and also installed a massive 780kW solar systems and are virtually off the grid. These must have been significant investments but in our currently climate of load-shedding and energy crisis, clearly a wise move.

As usual the wines were sublime, with the Director's Reserve White and Red being my favourites. Ellerman House pulled out all the stops for the most delicious canapes and a simply sublime lunch.

A perfect way to kickstart 2023. Thank you, Tokara!
