I was invited to attend a vintage tasting of Alto wines from the 1960s to 2000s on Wednesday, 4 September 2024 at Alto Estate, Stellenbosch. This taste of Alto Estate's illustrious history was a prelude to the release of the 100th consecutive vintage of the Alto Rouge red blend, Alto Rouge 2022. We tasted a total of 12 wines: Alto Rouge 1974 Alto Rouge 1987 Alto Rouge 1991 Alto Rouge 1993 Alto Rouge 2002 Alto Cabernet Sauvignon 1965 Alto Cabernet Sauvignon 1976 Alto Cabernet Sauvignon 1987 Alto Cabernet Sauvignon 1998 Alto Cabernet Sauvignon 2000 Alto Rouge 2022 Alto La Residence Heritage Blend 2022 After the tasting, we sat down to a delicious lunch: Breads, a choice of kingklip fish or steak for mains, and cheese boards to round it all off.
