Kanettefontein, now known as Canetsfontein, was established in 1781 by Jacobus Pienaar, who named it for the abundance of reeds on the land. Initially focused on fruit farming, the farm also produced wine for personal use. In 1815, Anna Lategan took over, expanding the vineyards and making wine production a priority. In 1994, the Falk family purchased the property, transforming it into a diverse, sustainable agricultural estate. Today, Canetsfontein specializes in organic wine, olive, and fruit farming. The farm also serves as a biodiverse haven, preserving parts of the Cape Floral Kingdom and providing a tranquil tourist destination surrounded by unspoiled nature.
